Integration of technologies and cultural frameworks in South Africa

The 2011 Short course “Contribution of sustainable manufacturing and water technologies towards housing in a blue economy” took place at the Stellenbosch University (SU) in Stellenbosch, South Africa from the 7th-11th Nov. 2011 including a case study trip field to the Delft settlement.
The workshop consisted in the integration of sustainable technologies in South Africa concerning the development of housing areas. Which technologies are the most appropriate and how would this implementation process should be carried out considering three basic assumptions: The existing environment including the household as well as places, streets and gardens at the community level, the involvement of the users as well as public officials and community leaders.
